Wildcarding in Gameweek 6 is all about maximising value and flexibility, but it’s easy to get pulled into popular picks simply because of ownership.
High ownership doesn’t always equal high returns, and picking the wrong “template” players can leave you with an unbalanced squad and wasted budget.
Below are five names that many managers are flocking to, but who may actually prove to be traps in the weeks ahead.
Pedro Porro
Spurs’ upcoming fixtures remain strong, but Thomas Frank’s comments about rotating full-backs raise concern with fixture congestion on the horizon. Porro carries upside but also some rotation risk.
Alexander Isak
With Ekitike suspended, Isak should start, but Liverpool's fixtures are getting trickier. At ÂŁ10.5m, paying such a premium for a forward who might not play 90 minutes is a questionable use of funds.
Mohamed Salah
If Erling Haaland is fit, he provides all the captaincy security you need. Pairing Salah with Haaland severely limits squad balance and makes building towards a Bench Boost strategy far more difficult.
Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool’s defensive returns have been solid, but their fixtures are toughening. Alternatives like Gabriel or Gvardiol offer better defensive prospects in a similar price bracket.
Jack Grealish
He's a solid option to pick, but I think I prefer Ndiaye for slightly cheaper. Ndiaye has half the ownership yet is posting similar underlying numbers. If you've had a poor start, Ndiaye over Grealish makes sense.
