Gameweek 5
The 🔑 to Gameweek 5 success 🏆

Summary for the lazy.
- Gameweek 5's deadline is Tuesday 30th August, 18:00 BST 🕰- Salah, Cancelo and Martinelli amongst most transferred out 🤯- You were probably unlucky in Gameweek 4. Chin up, it happens 👊- Pascal Groß (£5.8m) is probably worth the punt. We'll explain why 🔮- United sign 22 year-old Anthony from Ajax for £85m 💰Stay for the best captain, our expert's differential transfer and a bit of good ole' fashioned philosophy.

Stop removing great players.
This week the list of top 10 most transferred out players includes Salah, Toney (the second-highest scoring forward), Martinelli, Cancelo, Son and De Bruyne. Jesus is currently the 11th-most transferred out player. We'll reiterate it again: stop getting rid of good players. Particularly when those players have good fixtures on the horizon. Let your rivals get rid of them instead. Here's a WhatsApp from one of my friends 30 minutes into the Liverpool game on Saturday. Luckily for me, I get to be in a league with this guy. Sorry mate, but you deserve this.

Pascal's Wager.
Brighton's Pascal Groß (£5.8m - also known as Gross, Gros, GroB or basically anything that begins with "Gro"), is the second-highest scoring midfielder in the league after four gameweeks.Whilst anything can happen in a four gameweek window, plenty of managers are asking themselves a question that you only really hear in football or at swingers parties: can he keep it up?GroB's stats:Gross has scored 3 goals with an xG (expected goals) of 1.96. 1.96 is pretty good, but unsurprisingly, he has over-performed where goals are concerned so far. It's not a gross overperformance, but it's still notable. I'll see myself out.On the contrary, he has 1 assist from an xA (expected assists) of 1.55. That's the second-highest in the league (behind De Bruyne), meaning he probably deserves more. For reference, Leeds' Jack Harrison has 3 assists from just 1.37 xA. To translate: Pascal Groan has four attacking returns from an xGI (expected goal involvement) of around 3.5. Nothing too crazy here.

Remember our MUFF guide to spotting great differentials? Here's a reminder:M - are they owned by a Minority of managers?U - do they have good Underlying stats?F - do they have decent Form to back up the stats?F - do they have good Fixtures? At just 13.8% owned, the answer is certainly "yes" on all fronts where Pascal Growth is concerned.Brighton fans reckon he plays in a much more advanced position. This is clear from looking at his heat map too. Look at how little time he's spent in his own half compared to the 20/21 season.

Blaise Pascal argued that it's logical to believe in God because, on the off-chance that God exists, you get an eternity in the pearly VIP lounge for a relatively small entry fee (a lifetime of believing in God). The prize of everlasting salvation/punishment of everlasting damnation far outweighs the initial investment. In much the same way, we reckon Pascal Grope is probably worth the punt too. Whilst we can't promise he'll bring eternal joy, it does look like the German international will continue to tick away in a team that has gotten off to a fantastic start. For £5.8m, that's probably a wager worth taking.

The best captain.
It's Erling Haaland vs Nottingham Forest.Last week we shared an ominous statement from Guardiola about Haaland being rested in weeks where City play three games. But he's had four days rest and has just scored a hatty. Were not saying he'll definitely start, but we are saying that his risk of rotation is as low as anyone else's this week.

An expert's view.
Our resident expert this week is FPL Harry. Harry's Youtube channel has 30,000 subscribers and for good reason: he's finished in the top 5k for the last two seasons. Here's what he had to say ahead of Gameweek 5.
"I have finally come to the end of my time with Saka. Two assists so far this season is not enough given his starting price of £8.0m. Aston Villa at home in Gameweek 5 made it a difficult decision given recent form and it could backfire, particularly given that Saka has been playing well and passing the eye test. However, I concluded other, cheaper assets were capable of matching him and it's Leeds’ Rodrigo that joins my team.

My second free transfer could be used on two things: firstly on upgrading Patterson to an Arsenal defender, a Manchester City defender, Perisic or Cucurella. Secondly, it could be used to upgrade Archer to Mitrovic. As of now, the second transfer is being rolled and I am starting Pereira over Patterson and Trippier. Captaincy is currently on Jesus now after moving off Cancelo as my initial thought."
Harry was also appointed interim manager of our FPL team for just a few days. Eat your heart out, Di Matteo. He's decided to remove Kieran Trippier and bring in Brighton's Pervis Estupiñán. Kane gets the captaincy against West Ham.This is how we line up for Gameweek 5.

Btw - the tool we're using to show our team is Fantasy Football Hub's MyTeam tool. Plug your team ID into it and it'll spit out expected points, fixture difficulties and a team rating.
Here's your gameweekly dose of key stats. The "X marks the spot" section is a culmination of the last 4 gameweeks.
Unfortunately the site we use for our bookies' odds hasn't updated the scoring odds yet, but we know from other sources that
Haaland
is top once again.

Looking ahead.
The European competitions kick-off next week, which means regular midweek fixtures for Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Man United and West Ham.Each team will have their own set of priorities, but it's highly likely that top players will be rotated - or, at the very least, have their minutes closely managed - over the next few months. We'll keep you in the loop whenever we catch wind of that sort of rotation.
