We’re in Wales at the moment. Do we have any subscribers from Wales? Why didn’t you tell us how nice it is around here?

Anyway, between fending off sunburn and ushering angry sheep from the middle of country roads, we’ve been doing our utmost to keep on top of a breathless week of transfers, rumours and the occasional announcement from FPL Towers.

A lot has happened. It’s all crammed into the assortment of words underneath this one.

The big done deals.

This section will only include transfers that have been confirmed by an official source.

Anthony Elanga ➡️ Newcastle

Anthony Elanga has joined The Magpies for £55m. His heatmap from last season (below) is pretty well balanced, but using our ultra-sophisticated powers of deduction, it looks like he spends slightly more time on the right.

Where he plays for Newcastle remains to be seen, and his versatility is likely one of the reasons Howe was so keen to nab him. Still, it doesn’t bode well for Jacob Murphy, and the likes of Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon may also see their minutes impacted by Elanga’s arrival.

__

Mohammed Kudus ➡️ Spurs

Keen not to be outshone by Newcastle, Spurs have also spent £55m on an exciting, dynamic winger.

Few wingers can notch just 8 attacking Premier League returns (5 goals, 3 assists) from 32 games and still merit a £55m move to Spurs, but such is the potential of Mohammed Kudus that it doesn’t feel particularly ludicrous. He is the ultimate embodiment of the eye test in action.

A player like Kudus makes sense for Spurs. With Heung-min Son’s minutes managed more closely, his directness will be a welcome addition. It’ll be interesting to see his price.

Other confirmed transfers:

🔫 Christian Norgaard (defensive midfielder) ➡️ Arsenal.

🦅 Borna Sosa (left-wing-back) ➡️ Crystal Palace

🐈‍⬛ Reinildo Mandava (left-back) ➡️ Sunderland

🐓 Kota Takai (centre-back) ➡️ Spurs

🔥 Jacob Brunn Larsen (left-wing) ➡️ Burnley

🔵 Thierno Barry (forward) ➡️ Everton

🔴 Jair Cunha (centre-back) ➡️ Nottingham Forest

⚪️ Gabriel Gudmundsson (left-back) ➡️ Leeds

The rumour mill.

This section will include transfers that are strongly rumoured by reliable sources. We won’t include pure speculation, and will always try to verify the rumour with multiple sources.

The Morgan Gibbs-White Debacle

Fabrizio Romano is usually ultra-reliable. Such is his reputation that he’s become less of an in-the-know and more of a freelancer that clubs can employ to give extra amplification to their new signings.

But there’s a reason we don’t take his infamous “Here We Go!” announcements as gospel just yet. The Morgan Gibbs-White debacle is a great example.

In short, last week Romano announced that Gibbs-White was joining Spurs. Locked in, Here We Go.

Now, Nottingham Forest are allegedly taking legal action against Spurs. From the BBC article:

Sources have told BBC Sport that Forest are furious at Tottenham's conduct in their pursuit of the England international, and they insist Forest's threat to take legal action is genuine.

It is understood Forest insist they have not given Spurs permission to speak to Gibbs-White and are willing to go to whatever lengths required to prevent the transfer taking place.

So, TL;DR: Gibbs-White might eventually join Spurs, but it appears to be far from a done deal.

Jordan Henderson ➡️ Brentford

No FPL manager is buying Jordan Henderson ahead of Gameweek 1, but apparently, some transfers happen even if they don’t have immediate FPL intrigue. Weird.

Noni Madueke ➡️ Arsenal

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke will go to Arsenal. He picked up some FPL interest after scoring a 14-minute hat-trick against Wolves last season, but that accounted for nearly half of his total goals for the entire season (7).

We’re not expecting Madueke to be a regular starter in Arsenal’s Premier League fixtures (he competes with Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri). Still, he’s only 23 and could yet have a breakout season.

Other Here We Gos 🔥

🍒 Dorde Petrogic ➡️ Bournemouth

🐈‍⬛ Simon Adingra ➡️ Sunderland

News from HQ.

We learned a little bit more about the plans to incorporate AI into the platform last week.

Partnerships with Microsoft Copilot and Adobe mean managers will be able to:

  • Use an AI assistant trained on 30 seasons, 9,000 videos and 300,000 articles. Hopefully none of ours are included here, otherwise it’ll be a right dirty sod.

  • Use Adobe’s generative AI design tools to create custom team badges. Exactly what we’ve been crying out for.

According to FPLFocal, we’ll also get a new dashboard next season too:

Pre-season games.

That’s right, folks, we’re now officially into the pre-drinks phase of this big night out we’re all going on. Anyone for a game of Ring of Fire?

Most pre-season matches start next week, but there are a few recent ones worth mentioning:

Chelsea 3-0 PSG

Chelsea won the Club World Cup, but the thing that really has FPL managers erect (posture-wise, of course) is the fact that Cole Palmer (2) and Joao Pedro (1) were the scorers.

That’s 3 goals in 2 starts for Chelsea’s new striker. Pedro’s interest-o-meter (not a real unit of measurement) has ramped up from “intrigued” to “tempted” for many, whilst Palmer might well be playing himself back into contention after a barren end to last season.

Spot the odd one out.

Preston North End 1 -3 Liverpool

Liverpool played their first game since Diogo Jota’s death, with touching tributes from both sets of fans and players before, during and after the game.

Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Connor Bradley all scored. Mohamed Salah played the first half, and new signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez played the second half.

Other stuff we found interesting.

  2. Callum Wilson to leave Newcastle.

  3. Andre Onana will miss pre-season with an injury.

  4. We’ve launched our new-look website in beta.

We’d expect some movement on the game launch front this week. Maybe some price reveals? Let’s see.

Stay lazy.
