🤔 Should you play your Wildcard? 👀

An international break bonus email, because why not?

The stuff you should know 🚨

🌍 It’s the international break.

✅ Double Gameweek 7 is confirmed (it’s Luton and Burnley).

🤯 406,000 wildcards played already this week.

👑 Mohamed Salah will not be leaving for Saudi Arabia during this transfer window.

👀 Nicolas Jackson is currently the most transferred out player.

Stick around because what else are you going to do during an international break?

Alright?

In Greek mythology, chaos describes the empty abyss that precedes the beginning of the universe.

In Christian theology, chaos is the void created by the separation of heaven and Earth.

But in FPLogy, chaos describes the fortnight-long chasm between gameweeks in which our fantasy players are obliged to play football on behalf of their national teams.

How might that chaos impact your FPL team?

Let’s take a look.

It’s happening. The double gameweek we’ve all been waiting for has finally been announced.

Remember that postponed Luton vs Burnley match in Gameweek 2? Well, like a poo that just refuses to navigate the u-bend, it’s reared its head once more.

They’ll play each other in Gameweek 7, meaning both teams will play twice that gameweek.

Luton will play Everton (A) and Burnley (H).
Burnley will play Newcastle (A) and Luton (A).

Pras from our friends at The FPL Wire summed up the sentiment of most of the FPL community:

Yet there is some justified intrigue in Luton assets. We’ll cover it prior to Gameweek 7, but you’ll get a Morrisons-deli-counter taster of why they may not be terrible later in this email.

The pull-out method.

We’re talking about footballers pulling out of international duty, of course.

The mysterious pre-international-break injury is a phenomenon that can be observed every season.

Where usually club doctors are diagnostic experts, suddenly their medical knowledge becomes oddly primitive and vague. Before you know it, Trent Alexander-Arnold has had to withdraw from the England squad because of an imbalance of the humours and Destiny Udogie is out with Consumption.

Here’s a list of everyone who was too injured/ill/fatigued for international duty:

🔴 Alexander-Arnold (hamstring)
⚫ Anderson (knock)
🍬 Branthwaite (groin)
🕊️ Ferguson (knee)
🔵 Grealish (thigh)
🔴 Konate (hamstring)
🟠 Lockyer (thigh)
🐓 Udogie (fever)

Should you play your Wildcard this week?

Aside from that half-full bag of McCains in your freezer, your two Wildcards are probably your most important chips.

The others could transform a singular gameweek, but none have the power to transform entire phases of the season.

So it’s surprising when we see managers activating it because a few players in their 15-man squad have a cold-sore.

Listen, we can’t see your current team (unless you’re a premium member). Perhaps it really is a shitshow. But it’s far more likely that you’re a few transfers away from being relatively happy with it.

Don’t go for a back, sack and crack when a quick trim will suffice. There will almost certainly be more opportune times to play it, where we’ll have more info, more data and a better idea of which teams should be targeted and avoided later in the season.

(Spoiler- it’s around Gameweek 9, which we’ll discuss nearer the time).

Some key stats.

You know what? You get a reward for reading this far. Here’s a sneak-peak at our full smorgasbord of FPL-relevant stats. Pay particular attention to Nicolas Jackson, who is currently the most transferred-out player this week.

The fixtures.

Now is as good a time as any to revisit the fixture schedule.

Some fixture calendars are aggravatingly unresponsive to what’s actually happening in the Premier League, which is why we use Fantasy Football Hub’s fixture ticker instead. Like all of their tools, it’s incredibly dynamic.

Luton being top makes their Double Gameweek more interesting than it would ordinarily be.

You can join the Hub here and get full access to this, along with other monstrous tools and loads of excellent articles and team reveals every gameweek.
